A mentee is a person who chooses to expand their knowledge and competencies to make the most of their CSUF college experience. Mentees collaborate with a peer mentor by maintaining regular contact and connecting in-person or online (at least twice per month) to work on mutually identified goals.

Potential MENTEE benefits include:

  • Learn to navigate your degree program and understand future steps
  • Gain strategies to achieve your academic and professional goals
  • Connect with someone who cares for your success as a student
  • Access campus resources and clubs
  • Build a strong network of faculty, staff and students
  • Invitation to HHD Dean’s networking event and recognition certificate

Who can join as a MENTEE?

College of Health and Human Development students who are declared undergraduate majors in these departments/schools:

  • Child and Adolescent Studies
  • Human Services
  • Kinesiology
  • Public Health
  • School of Nursing

We extend a special welcome to first generation college students and those who have experienced academic barriers of any kind.

  • Review the available mentor profiles and select your mentor preference (opens about one week prior to the start of the semester)
  • If space is available, students can join any time during the semester

How can I join as a MENTEE?

Step 1: Click on the button "Interested in this program? Join now as a mentee" at the top of this page. Sign up using your CSUF portal username and password.

Step 2: You will be asked if you are willing to participate in a small research component that includes completing confidential surveys. If you agree, you will fill out the consent form and complete confidential surveys to help our program and other students.

Step 3: Review mentor information, availability, and introductory video clips and select your top three mentor choices. Mentors should have their profiles complete about a week prior to classes starting.

Step 4: At the beginning of the semester your mentor will reach out to you!

A mentor is a guide, confidant, or facilitator who creates a supportive climate for learning and growth. Mentors are eager to give back to their fellow students in their majors by sharing their own knowledge and experiences.

Mentors will enroll in the 3-unit 399: Peer Mentoring for Student Success course that corresponds with their major (e.g., CAS 399, HUSR 399). Only students who apply to serve as a peer mentor and who are admitted to the PMP will be enrolled in the course. The course will provide mentors with instruction, activities and self-reflective work to develop their skills as a peer student mentor. The course requires 35 out-of-class hours on peer mentoring and professional activities.

Potential MENTOR benefits include:

  • Earn course credit (3 units) for mentorship course
  • Interact closely with faculty member(s) and fellow mentors in a small course
  • Gain mentorship skills while helping students in your major
  • Learn more about college life and resources on campus
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Receive a HHD Dean certificate of participation and graduation cord

Who can join as a MENTOR?

  • Students who are declared in their CHHD major and in good academic standing (3.00 GPA or higher) who have been CSUF students for at least one semester are encouraged to apply.

How can I apply to be a MENTOR?

Step 2: Complete the Google Forms survey and submit.

Step 3: The PMP Coordinator will review your application and follow-up with you in 3-5 business days with next steps.
